composing for fun

We’ve been composing for fun in our lessons! For Christmas(8 months ago, yes!) some of us composed our own variation on Jingle Bells, just for fun. I then sent a pdf of each students variation back to the families. I’d normally have given them easy sheetmusic to play for Christmas but not everyone has a printer so this was a nice zoom friendly option!

duets and backing tracks

We did loads of “duets” today! Yes, we were on zoom and yes latency is still a thing. It was mostly backing tracks with me playing the student part along with the student (shared screen and audio) with a word about how its just for fun. Sometimes we do the regular two pianists versions if I think they’ll see the fun side and not get too worried about the delay, and sometimes il leave my teachers duet part in their Tonara assignments.

2020 piano exam results

Many of my students still did exams this year. We usually do other things too and often start the exam pieces later in the year, so moving online in March has meant that some students have already done one piano exam which was mostly prepared in remote learning! As you can imagine, in the early days I only had really basic resources for teaching remotely and we were all thrown into this by surprise and had to work out a new way of teaching and learning. Everyone returned to lessons at different points throughout the year too, and mostly still wanted to go ahead with exams, and they all did themselves proud ๐Ÿ˜.
